Whenever I add an OceanWave sop the flip that is guided by the GuidedOcean goes crazy!
I mean the flip just doesn't follow the GuideOcean
If I remove the OceanWave everything seems ok.
Has anyone else tested the combination of those two? It happens both on H16 and H16.5
I think maybe something is going wrong here.
My setup comes from the shelve tool and only few parameters are changed.
Can anyone else confirm this behaviour?

Technical Discussion » How can I save as a "Numbered Backup" ?

I had the “Numbered Backup” checked and it didn't work.
I switch back to “ Overwrite File” closed program and went to sleep.
Woke up, saw the reply, switched again to “Numbered Backup” and now it works as expected.
Strange…
Thank you jsmack, your answer made me try again,so now I can save without the $HIP changing the cache directories!

I have turned on the option for “Numbered Backup” but when I press Ctrl+S I just get the typical question “ Overwrite or Cancel?”
There is Backup folder created (autosave is off) in the HIP directory but no extra file when I save.
How can I evoke a “Numbered Backup”?
Or is there a shortcut for this?

Hi Sadjad! Any luck with this?
In H13 there's no error message but all your questions remain valid.
Can anyone help out this? Dear Sesi it should be a little more straight forward by design ! No offence but are the words “user friendly” too much to ask?

I don't meant evolve into a different kind of solver.
I mean will it become faster, multi-threaded and more memory efficient?
Knowing that, would me help decide to focus or not on taming the flip solver.
I was using Realflow sph and decided that instead of trying Hybrido(to get better performance) I should learn Houdini' s flip. But in flip I cant recreate the style of liquid behavior I was getting with RF sph.
So my dilemma now is should I go back to Rf where I know how to setup and manipulate sph fluids or should I learn to work with the old fluid solver in Houdini.
If I know that sph in houdini is dead there is no reason leaving my Realflow small scene workflow….

Now that FLIP is the default solver is the SPH Fluidsolver going to evolve or is this the end of it's life?
I am asking because for some scenes it give better results.(especially small scale scenes and thin fluids)
So should one focus into finding ways/tricks to make Flip appropriate for these cases as well or should he work with the Fluidsover without the fear that it's a dead tool and it won't get better?

Can anyone confirm that when you have an “Import Attribute” in vops and go to “Signature”—> “Export Parameters to Type Properties” (or even drag n drop) the to the HDA parameters , it is always stuck to the default type which is vector?
Is this a bug?

Thank you Sadjad!!!
I am afraid that I haven't used chops a lot so far ops: so your solution is a great starting point!
Could you help me find a way of procedurally inputing of the first and last point numbers in the Group node ?
The first point has point num =0
and the last point num= $NPT
But how can put these numbers in the group node?
It doesn't have a local variable $NPT so I guess thats the reason it doen't accept it…
edit: I got it!!! It has the local variable $N instead of $NPT!!!

Hi!
I have an open curve and I want to smooth it without the first and last points move at all (maybe using the smooth sop?)
edit: Nevermind I figured out a way do it in vops

I am using a vop to asign the “rot” attribute for the Instance node and I get the result you see in yellow.
I want to achieve the same result with the Copy sop but using the same vop gives the result in blue!
I don't understand! Shouldn't they give the same result?
How can I avoid the weird twisting when using the Copy node and “Transform using template point attributes”?

….there has to be a very simple answer on this….
Every 3d app has a way to do this. In Maya you go to Camera settings
—>Environment. And the color you choose affects indirect illumination btw.
How about Houdini? How do I change the background color?

Thanks Jeff for clarifying this!
So would you say that now, the improvment in speed of the Attribute Transfer node makes it as fast as any VEX/VOP/Wrangler solution would be?
Or is it just faster in comparison with Point Cloud functions in specific?

because Attrib Transfer was embarrassingly slow in that case. In 13.0, it is now fast
Without any intension of being annoying, I made a test comparing the same file in H12.5.562 and H13.0.198.21 (it was made in H12 and uses Attribute Transfer).
The whole setup of this file seemed slow to me, so I did the test hoping for speed gain.
The time needed for the Attribute Transfer to cook is only 4% less ..
I am missing something? Should I rebuild from scratch my network in H13 to see a real difference in speed?
