I know this post is really old, and i am using Houdini 13 but I can't seem to find any other help. I've done what the above said to do, but my renders only come out completely black. Not sure what to do…

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Change in Life Expectancy affecting $LIFE

I have an expression on a property node under Uniform Scale: (0.25 + ($LIFE * 50)) and my particles are simulating exactly how I want them too. However, I just changed the Life Expectancy of my particles from 100 to 4. Doing so drastically changed $LIFE thus making my particles scale up uncontrollably. Is there some math that I can do to my Uniform Scale expression to return my particles to the way they were before without having to just tweak the numbers until it looks good again?

Now I've got that all under control, thanks! Now I need to emit my particles from the centre of each fracture piece, rather than randomly across the surface. The only options my emitter gives me is either from points, edges, primitives, etc…

Hi,
I have a fractured RBD explosion and I am emitting particles from the surface of the pieces. I am trying to identify certain pieces from the particle simulation that are above a specified velocity and omit them from birthing particles. I cant seem to figure out how to do it.

I am a student working on a project and I've added a POP Property node into my particle network in an attempt to make my particles scale up as they live longer. I watched a tutorial and saw someone use $life, however in my scene I get an error saying “unable to evaluate expression, (Undefined Variable (/obj/particle_network1/popproperty1/pscale))” The tutorial I watched was in Houdini 12.1, however I am using Houdini 13.0.
Here is a link to the tutorial I am trying to recreate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ed-sdDrePyo [youtube.com]

Trying to render an explosion on the HQUEUE Render farm at my school, and i keep on getting this error:

The IFDs seem to fail within 10s. And there is no yellow flag error on my dopimport1. Has anybody else had this?
