You should always color correct your fx after youve rendered because lighting will only take you so far.
would you post a example of what your getting and a hip file?

YES! thank you so much
how are you creating transparency in 2d though (i would imagine your using nuke) are you shuffling channels ?

Hello Community
I was wondering if any one has come across a method to create fire that is turbulent but more so transparent like this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaspF7gW4tU [youtube.com]
Ive come across…something like it but am curious if anyone knows a better solution.
thanks

Hi
sorry I cant give any advice, but I do have a question, in your network you connected 2 sources to your pointsop? ive never seen any one do that befor. could you explain why you did that or why any one would ever do that?
thank you

Thank you! and good advice.
Sure, so in short i created a set of wires. used an expression to animate them in y direction. threw them through a dopnetwork using wireobject, wire solver. at the end of the dop network i threw down a vortex force. In the “vortexforcecreateattrbiute” I used wave motion effects in the radius to get interesting formations played with the velocities and contour range.
you should really look at sams noodledefromer hip http://ihoudini.blogspot.com/2009/09/wire-solver-and-wire-deformer.html [ihoudini.blogspot.com]
Thats how i started. All in all its in the vortex force.
Like to see what you come up with!

why yes he does!
I had this problem all day yesterday. So you a few options.
In houdinis compisiting operator. read in your file add a dof node switch your image to M then add defocus node (connect dof to mask input of defocus) In defoucus node click per pixel defocus then go to Mask tab: switch operator mask to “Mask Input” “M”. From there you can go back to the dofnode and start playing with your settings.
IF you ues after effects take your Zdepth pass and ad a 3dextractor effect. Set your W&B to extremly low values like… .01-1. and just play with it until you get what you like.
You can do it in nuke but I haven't had the chance to mess with it yet…
good luck

Hi community
Here is a finished piece (not so much a wip). Let me know what you think feedback is always appreciated.
used wire solver and orbolt x-ray shader

Thank you for your responses
ok so i tried both methods, with promoting the attributes i was getting weird extrusions, along with massive inconsistencies with the entire shape.
for just adding the $WIDTH attribute, it looked like i was getting variations but, each wire would taper in and out of it self, how could i fix that?
I also tried using wireframe for this method and it does not accept $WIDTH, why is that?

Hi
Messing with wire solver to get a wild vortex of lines. Im using copy stamp to alter the length of the lines but after applying a polywire or wireframe is there a way to apply a random wire radius to multiple wires?
So in short, copy stamp the radius of wires after they've been simulated?
