Any reason why you can use a copySOP, apart from this being slower?
point.setPosition((x, y, z))
# is the same as
point.setAttribValue(“P”, (x, y, z))

As it looks ‘Barnsley Fern’ ain't a L-System but a IFS.
Same same but different?

The programs fern and finitefern in the exm toolbox produce the Fractal Fern described by Michael Barnsley in Fractals Everywhere . They generate and plot a potentially infinite sequence of random, but carefully choreographed, points in the plane.

I even just need the UI of Houdini, and the other stuff could be handled by myself.
No offense: but if you're really just after the UI and Houdini is not the right hammer for your screw:
Why not use some other node frame work?

Is there a list of SOPs that support manipulation of tets?
I tried primitive and edit but somehow it didn't look like they're understanding the tet primitives.

Are there any example images or movies that demonstrate what it exactly does?

I read it like:
Can you protect $VARNAME with \$VARNAME…
So the clusters would get the envar and expand it locally rather than the machine writing ifds.

matthias_kI'd say a polygn curve is a polygon that's not closed.
I don't know how to create the initial curve as a polygon curve.
matthias_k
Maybe this one is yours (rdg?):

Yeah that's ‘mine’. Lorenz attractors are recursive - a concept not easily implemented in Houdini's native contexts. That's why I chose the python back then.
The math for helix/spirals is easily put into a vopSOP or vex node. That's way faster for larger point counts than python.

You should consider digital assets (HDA/OTLs) before bypassing Houdini's strenghts with python/QT workarounds.
Technical Discussion » only one instance of pyqt widget
- rdg

Hi,
This is kind of making me feel dumb and for the sake of it cannot figure out how to:
Start only one instance of pyqt widget using the ‘pyqt_houdini’ helper.
To be honest I wouldn't know how without using it, so I guess it's not part of my problem
I tried heaps of things, storing the app in hou.session, querying the toplevelwidgets and what not. Houdini/QT either segfaults, I get duplicate widgets crashing each other, you name it.
At the end of the day I just look sad to the next desk where the guys are happily dragging qtDesigner .ui files into their Maya and claim “it just works”.
Actually I'm not a big fan of qt at all, but trying to emulate nested xml data with 31k nodes using Houdini's subnets and basic Tree View feels somehow so 1995 and is actually really slow.
Enough ranting, anyone feels like sharing the snippet ?
Thanks,
Georg
