Hi,
I am working on a hip file which is 2.6MB size. When I check the memory use of hmaster.exe, it is using 417MB memory. Is it normal? When I render a frame, Windows Task Manager shows below.
mantra.exe about 300MB
hmaster.exe 416MB
Please advise.

It is called, Calin Casian Character. It looks very good, and it is imported to houdini as the bgeo format.
I would like to know if it is modeled in Houdini or any specific modeling software, and how is it converted to BGEO format if other software has involved.
Here is the picture of the model in Houdini.

Technical Discussion » Attaching a POP attractor to a moving SOP

Attaching a POP attractor to a SOP.
Here is my situation.
I have a GRID sop with a Point (which is an Attractor(particle)), and I can control the direction of the particles from the particle source as I move "xform1>point1>grid1“ SOP.
I want to attach the ”xform1" to a moving Sphere1, so the grid follow the sphere, as well as the particles from a source follow it
However, as I set up “xform1>point1>grid” as the attractor in POP network, the particle doesn't follow the movement of the sphere1. I have no idea how to attach a POP attractor to another SOP(Sphere in the picture).
In brief,
The attractor follows the SOP (Sphere1) movement with the particles from the particle source. Is there any function to make child/parent link with the particle? Please advise.

Hi,
I am trying to connect a Particle source SOP(_point3_RECEIVER_01.SOP) to an animated SOP (animated by Digital Asset custom panel), but it says an error message below. Please advise why it cause a problem or any solutions if you know.
“Warning: A mis-match of attributes on the inputs was detected. Some attribute values may not be initialized to expected values”
Thanks,
Tojam

It happened to me before. As I got a new video card, it didn't happen again so far.
You may delete your houdini preference files, and it may solve the problem.
The Pref. folder is located at “My Documents” folder.
Good Luck~

You want a Tetrahedron which is available with the Platonic Solids SOP or you can click on the Platonic Solids tool under the Create shelf tab.
Cheers!
steven
Thanks for the information of the Platonic Solids SOP. It create a perfect shape. When I render it, it looks strange.
Normals on the object is pointing out. Please advise.

What is the best way of creating Pyramid polygon model which has exact four faces?
I tried to use “Superquad” SOP, but it renders in strange, and it has 5 points.
I also used
Box1
|
Edit (to Scale the top four points to the one center place)
|
fuse (to clean up multiple points)
It makes a pyramid, but when I render it using view>Mantra, it looks strange. I think it is about “Consolidate”. what is it? and How do I can fix the rendering look?
The normal pointing out nomally on the face.
Please advise.

I add the Primitive node to color objects for separating it from other objects while modeling, but it makes slow the navigation of the viewport.

While I am working on a houdini project which has 2.4MB size file. After I put a couple of “Primitive” node in a node tree, it makes Houdini slow, which means that it slows the navigation (zoom in/out) in the viewer window and the node window. it could be a real pain if I didn't realize the problem.
“Primitive” node
Is there any other heavy nodes which I have to avoid? Because I use a normal computer with Nvidia Quadro FX1500, it affects my processing time significantly. I still use Houdini Master 8.2.13.
I hope it help someone who use a normal computer, and please advise if you know any other heavy nodes.

Happy Holiday!
When I open a hip file, it shows a confirm message with an error message.
Myproject.hip* load failed:
Warning: Parameter value off in overridepth is invalid. Defaulting to 0…[/b]
*my file name
Do you know what it means? After I click on “Continue” button, it doesn't change anything in the project file. It is fine with the message, but it bothers me when I open my project hip file.
Please advise.

Thanks, for your help. I used hserver -S ckim in the remote computer, and now I can render it using the network computer. However, the rendering time is strange.
I did a test render with “mantra” and “mantra -H localhost,prodlab1,prodlab2”
mantra
18 seconds
mantra -H localhost,prodlab1,prodlab2
36 seconds
The network speed is 10MBPS. Do I need to modify any Houdini system files or any other changes? Please let me know any advice.
Thanks,
Tojam

Technical Discussion » Object shadow in renderman rendering in Houdini
- tojam

The scene has one sphere, one Grid and one light. All three have linked to a shader each. And In light, I setup
Depth Map : Auto- Generate(mid-pointZ)
Z-Depth Map: c../../ xxx.shad
and RIB shader of the light, I put the same path into shadowname field.
After I render the scene, I got a shadow, but it is too artificial and sharp.
How can I give the smoothness or gradation on it?
Please help.

Recently, I bought “Essential RenderMan Fast Book”, and I found that the book has missing pages, from page 245- to page276.
I can not believe it how the publisher made the mistake. You got the same problem if you have the book already? please confirm it.
