Hi
I want to create a scene where a car crashes with a tree and I am not sure on how to simulate the leaves of the tree when falling.
I thought about cloth but now I know it is not the right option, with to many leaves it takes forever to even give me a sign of something.
I do not want to use bones or blends, I really want a sim !!
Any idea?

I really like the way Carlos teaches, I can say that helps more than the tutorials to me at this point because he explains everything and I am still learning technical stuff, but like I said he makes it easy to understand and after your class you have to create your own projects.

I think it is not related to your system ….. you already have a good workstation, the issue is you have to adjust your simulation to use most of what you have.
have a look at cache memory MB.

That is good to hear.
Now, the cache memory is not only for preview during simulations.
I mean if I change the particle separation parameter to 0.01 it takes forever to move one frame even if I increase the cache memory to 3000.
Is this not only for telling houdini how much of the sim to store in may RAM? Or this parameter actually affect the speed ?

Can you really ever have enough ram and processor power ? . I wonder if you can do a distributed sim with the Amazon ec2 cloud?

The cloud is wonderful but for what I understand you can't use it with simulations right now, can you ?. (Coming soon)

Quad core 2.9
6 RAM
Quadro 1700
I can't work smoothly with simulations. (Fluids specially), I am thinking about buying a new system but I have a doubt.
What will be the best for sims in Houdini ?
CPU's or RAM ? I know that the two are relevant but here is what i have in mind.
Option 1
Workstation Xeon 2ghz x 2
Nvidia Quadro 3800 1 Gb
12 GB Ram
Option 2
PC i7 Over-clocked to 3.2
1.8GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 295 (This means 2 video cards ?)
24 GB in RAM
They share the same price ratio and as you can see one is giving me more RAM and the other one more CPU's.
Is it worthed to jump and buy this system, or you think is not going to have a high impact compared to what I am using. (I seen in another topic that I share similar specs with a lot of you guys but I don't know if I am the only one running slow sims )

for copystamping you need to use stamp variable in the left input graph using stamp() expression for example on color SOP to change color each time the object is copied
for foreach method you need to change color inside foreach SOP to be different for each group. you can get the name of the current group by stamps(“..”, chs(“../forstamp”), “”) and then you can extract number from that group by opdigits() expression to get different number for each group which you can use as seed to randomize your color
here file with both methods working

Thank you guys I tried all that , but I am obviously doing something wrong.
I am frustrated, I can't make it work. I know it's something stupid and that's making it worst.:evil:

Copy SOP
5 Copies (Out put Groups ,color Stamp $CY)
Until here everything looks fine

I created 60 copies with out $CY groups, now I want to assign a different color to each one of them. How can I do that ?

I have a DOP network and I need to render my RBD Objects with different materials but I can't.
I created an object in geo level with some groups selecting polys because I want to use different materials on it.
I made it a RBD Object
I am using an expression on the creation frame field of my RBD object so I can emit the same object every 50 frames.
My simulation works perfectly fine until I try to render it.
When render the scene, all the emitted objects are rendered with the default color and not with the materials I specified at geo level using my UV's and materials.
If I make my original object visible at obj level I can see my colors and materials but just on the first object being emitted and on top of it the other gray object overlaps because is coming from the DOP net.
Do you know how can I make them render with the settings that I need

Houdini is the best aplication ever , I started around 6 months a go and learning at www.cardanfx.net ( Because they also have training in spanish)and now I do everithing I need in Houdini I was using blender before.

Sorry but now I am having trouble when I try to render shadows, I can see my 3d objects but I do not see the shadows.
I am using the constant and the super material , but both of them are doing same thing.
I have a simple image and I want to place a sphere on the floor and have the shadow of the sphere reflected on the floor. I am using one grid as my floor with a camera projection and constant material with the image.
Everything looks fine but not shadows. The constant shader is not accepting lights true?
But how can accept just the shadows to have a more realistic look?
Should I use takes ?

I didn't like it at all you learn almost the same thing at cardanFX.net for half of the price and time.
I though it was going to be something more complex.

Just a simple question…
I am rendering some scenes using the caustics effect , all my set up is great ( I think,jajaja ) , but when render my Mantra node , I have this message
“No licenses could be found to run this application”.
I have the HD version for 9.1 and the 9.5 beta and bouth are doing the same thing.
My question…
Is these because in this versions of houdini I can only use the Micropolygon render ?

I am using an image for my background and I have a portion of a building falling a part.
I am using camera projection for my building with a basic material and a UVTexture node.
My problem :
Everything looks great , but when I send my render to Mantra, the default light appears on the box creating shadows. ( The light is not matching the scene ).
I went to my render properties and I deactivate the default light. ( Now everything goes black ).
PLEASE “I need my 3D objects to match the scene”
I have been using Cinema for a long time and there you have tags for compositing. But here in Houdini I don't know if those settings are in the render node or in lights or anywhere else.
I don't know what to do, is driving me crazy, to much time in the help menu and still I don't get it.
