So this test version of demo is also not working, the same error. In terminal after launchim of Houdini it gets me this:

My MAC is on SSD while my Linux is on classic HDD and still beats the OS X. I am sad about that because I love Macs.

The about window I will check after boot again to Linux, now I'm on Mac. But strange is that there is no option visible in the network view / out = I can't add the octane render node via TAB key - there is no octane listed. It is listed only in top menu but there is giving me the error window. Ufff

Hi, yesterday I did a lot of tests to compare the overall render and OpenCL performance of latest production build of Houdini on latest Mac OS X 10.11.1 and CentOS 7. And what I've found shocked me. Render time on CentOS was 15-27% faster then on Mac OS X and OpenCL was 44% faster! I love Mac OS X but this get me to switch permanently I used same scenes, same settings and on the same hardware (the same machine). For example one render on OSX took 9:57 min but on CentOS 8:00, other 3:01 vs 2:27, OpenCL on Mac 1:52 min vs 1:18 Linux etc…
I was using MACs for abut 20 years, but I think this is for me a game changer - to get up to 44% boost in performance for free only by switching to another operating system. I think it could help people decide too.
Do you have similar experience? How could be so big differences technically?

Just as I wrote, I can't add the Octane ROP under Linux. When I hit in the menu Create render node - Octane I get immediatelly the error window which looks the same as the error on MAC OS X I wrote few days ago. Then you recompiled the Mac version and it worked. Now it seems it is the same problem on CentOS 7 a latest prod. build of Houdini.

Hello Juan, I tried now your Octane Linux demo, but I am getting the same error as before with the OS X version before you compiled it again. So correctly setup houdini.env to my folder, in Houdini in the menu I click Create Render Node Octane a bang - the error window jumps right at me. I am on CentOS 7 with latest production build of Houdini 15.0.244.16. Can you please check it if the Linux version you posted few days ago is really working for you? I am now deciding to switch from OS X to CentOS due to Octane, but unfortunatelly your demo is not working. Let me know please. Thanks…

Working in therms that I was able to create octane render node. A lot of things makes my Houdini to hang onto the beachball. Simple scene - imported low rez mesh, created octane vopnet and diffuse material applyied to this obj. Created render targert and camera. Trying to render to mplay = Houdini hang, beachball, neverending. I saw this also when trying to use texture as environemnt instead the daylight. So in my case - octane render demo = absolutelly unusable on OS X. Mabe on different platforms it runs well, but on 10.11.1 with latest production built Houdini it is a disaster. And I was so looking forward to it…

Hi Juanjo, if it is a matter of minutes I will not leave my comp today until you post it ) Thanks a lot.
You missed my question about X11 - when I will install X11 on my El Cap, will the IPR work?
And second question now - when you finish your IPR version using Mplay (as you wrote in few days) - will this be available also in the demo version? Can you let us know here in this thread when it will be done?
I really like Houdini as I like Octane, I think combination of these two is a big deal for a lot of people without money for big renderfarm.

Hi Juanjo, I didn't know you are a developer of this Octane demo, that's great. The production build 15.0.244.16 is here for quite a long time. I have thought that any software designed for some version of other app should work in their future minor releases. So octane demo designed for 15.0.179 version should work in 15.0.244. I would understand it when it will not work with 15.1 or 16 version of Houdini. I have read somewhere that IPR is not working due to lack of X11. I think X11 is an old terrbile dinosaur so Octane should be written using current technologies and not depend on something ancient, what do you think? And by the way when I install on my El Capitan X11 - the IPR will work?
And the IPR render is the main feature what people from Octane on GPU expect and using the most for buliding scenes and fast preview. So the lack of it is quite bad. I tried the demo in Maya 2016, few times it restarted my computer, but the IPR is working and is a very nice feature.
I am looking forward to your new release, so I can try it myself in my loved Houdini. Thanks for an answer.

My version of Houdini is in the picture - 15.0.244.16 - so the latest produciton build. My installation procedure was correct. So what is causing the error when trying to load the plugin? Am I alone with this problem? Is there anybody who is running Octane demo without issues?

Hi, yesterday I wanted to try Octane for Houdini demo, co I downloaded the latest demo from Otoy web. Because Mac OS X install has no installation info (just for win and linux) I placed whole unpacked folder in Apps and set variables to that folder in houdini.env (HOUDINI_PATH = /Applications/Octane_2.24.2.0_Houdini_15.0.179.25_OSX;&). Now Houdini see the Octane but when I try to create an Octane render node from menu it fails with this error. Can anyone help me please? Thanks a lot.
