On my “old” gtx 470 with 12,800 millions (sphere polygon frequency 800)
aa 16x, smooth lines , hdr rendering, diffuse and specu
viewport report :
H11 = 1.1 fpm , 0.02 fps
Opengl 1 = 2.3 fps
Opengl 2.1 = 23 fps
Opengl 3.2 = 19 fps
really nice improvement from H11 ! but if i want to select a bunch of point houdini freeze with only one cpu thread at 100%.
Same for selection / deselection of a node seems to not multithread, houdini have a little lag (2/3s)

Try to test different version. ( use DriverSweeper to clean all your ati driver between two install)
I dont know if Sesi and Ati communicate their respective bugs but have chosen to develop on Opencl rather than cuda, implicate i think to exchange with all protagonists (nvidia and … Ati )
I really interested if you resolve your problem, to have your feedback about this ati 7970 with houdini.
For the moment the better choice (for low budget) is a gtx 580 3go, but the more i learn about the nvidia ’s performance and policy the more I want buy an Ati card.
The nvidia restricted drivers on opencl and opengl to preserve their sacrosanct quadro, put me angry !

I want to buy a new graphic card. I dont have money for a professionnal series so I 'm interesting to your experience with gamer card.
-Ati had a bad drivers reputation, but in opencl their card are faster than nvidia equivalent.
- Nvidia have a good driver but in professionnel context their gaming card are restricted (to sell their professionnal card ?… )
So i would like to have a feedback to ati user (artefact, crash, etc …)

if some users with a quadro card can do the benchmark for comparaison.

I find this benchmark here [tomshardware.com].
As you say twod the gtx680 is not a good choice …
Unfortunately, I did'nt find the same benchmark for workstation graphics card.

the new gtx 680 with 4 go of ram look pretty cool, but for approximately the same price of an “old” fermi quadro 4000, I dont know which is the best in H12…

With the last version 295.73 houdini in OGL 3.2 is very unstable.

I created a database on the various tutorials available for Houdini. It still missing a lot but there are already about 300 inputs.
HOUDB [papicrunch.net]
I organized the database as Sidefx, with 11 categories ; general, modeling, animation, character, rendering, compositing, effects , dynamics and I add dev and press.
I use gcstar [gcstar.org] to create the database and gcweb [jonas.tuxfamily.org] to publish it.
In it, you can find informations about the tutorial likes :
Categories, Author, Licence type (free or not), Media type (video, hip, paper,), Year of creation, Version of houdini it used, Operator type, Tag, Description, Level (I didn't see all of this so this is an estimation if you disagree with some say me)and Link where you can find the tuto
Gcweb's interface allows you to display the collection of different ways :
standard
description
mosaic
full mode
and a « Cloud » view
gcweb provide also a great search tool in the database
and voilà , If you find some errors in the database or if you have links to add, please say me.
The last word to thank the whole houdini's community that shares its knowledge with all,

other lib was missing but with help of google i find the right packtage
if some want the dso folder for houdini 10.810 64 bit gcc4.4
during the compilation i had some error but it 's seem to work …

i try to compile your stuff max but i have this error :

Link failed
i use houdini 11.581 on ubuntu 10.04
can someone help or give the compiled stuf ?
