I'm trying to get a Font SOP to become a clean, evenly distributed set of points along the shape of the letters I'm typing in.
I'm then copying a Line SOP to the resulting points.
What I want is to create about 2x the amount of points I get from the Font SOP by default, but in a nicely distributed fashion, not just a random distribution of points.
The only way I could find to do it so far is to use a Subdivide SOP after the Font SOP, but it creates some really unevenly spread points and it totally screws with the shape of the letters.
What would be a nice clean way to do this?
Thanks!
Alex

I have a simple particle setup in a POPNET. I select the geo, apply a FLIP Fluid from Object, can see all my Autodop etc being created, but nothing in the viewport, and playback is too smooth to mean anything is being cooked.
My particles vanish too.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

I just had this problem and noticed that my 11 folder is empty in ~/Preferences/Houdini/11
The 10 folder has some elements, but 11 is completely empty…What is the fix for that!

I just downloaded Apprentice today, and Houdini loads without any icons….The H11 folder lives next to the H10 folder on my HD (Macbook Pro, i5 2.4 ghz OS 10.6.8)
What can I do to get them back?

I'm using a Creep Pop referencing a Nurbs curve. I can see that some of my particles are sliding along the curve, but not all…Is there a trick to making sure all particles actually slide?
Thanks

I have an odd issue when I try to render a bunch of points (spheres copied to points) connected with an Add Sop.
The viewport correctly shows me a bunch of spheres connected by lines, but Mantra seems to want to render polygon faces…Why is that?
Thanks
Alex

Thanks, those examples are great.
Tomas, I was coming close to what you did, but missed the part where you are skipping every other point. But doesn't this assume that the number of points naturally progresses from one sphere to the other (so point 0 on sphere 1, point 1 on sphere 2, point 2 on sphere 1, point 3 on sphere 2, etc…)
How do you know that that is the case?
Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for, just want to make sure I understand the process fully

Say you have a sphere, with 50 points
Inside of it you have a smaller sphere with 50 points.
You want to connect the two spheres points with lines, as if the inner sphere was tied to the outer sphere with these lines
I think the trick may lie in the type of point selection I create within the Add Sop
Thanks

Hello
I'm trying to figure out the best way to connect points from one object to the other. I have two spheres with the same amount of points, and want to connect their points.
I can see how I can use an Add SOP to connect the points coming from one object, but this will not work for two. A Merge SOP will also not do the trick for me.
Any hints?
Thanks
Alex

When I launch Houdini through the terminal (i'm on OSX) I get

Looks like Houdini dosen't like saving desktops that have panels on a second screen on Mac 10.5
I just tore my network view of and resized it to be the size of my secondary screen. Saved the desktop, and Houdini put the panel I had just resized back on to my main screen.
Bug?

Little addition to this…I just tested rendering a simple cube in the scene, and the render works. So it must be something related to heavy DOP related scenes maybe?

Hello
I have just purchased Houdini Apprentice and noticed that when I installed my license I ended up having 2 non commercial licenses for the app and 2 non commercial license for the renderer, along with the Apprentice edition.
Houdini launched correctly in HD Non-Commercial mode.
I create a very simple Font Sop, then used it with the Flames shelf tool. I can see in the viewport that all is working fine, but rendering with Mantra won't work. The renderer just never starts.
Checking the Mantra ROP gives me “Error : Command Exit Code :15”
I am on a Mac, runnining OS 10.5 (not Snow Leopard)
What am I doing wrong here? Do I need to delete the other licenses?
Thanks
Alex

Thanks a lot Jeff, the use of the Blast SOP is really interesting. What exactly is the Blast SOP doing aside from “deleting” a certain group? Does it somehow “convert” the particles to being SOP points rather than POP points (if such a question even makes sense…)
I did a test render of your scene and could not see the colors come through, although I saw you assigned two different colors pretty clearly. I copied the points to spheres to make sure Mantra had some geometry to render, and still the colors would not come accross. Copying sphere SOPs allows me to see the colors in the viewport, but still not in Mantra
I hope these beginner questions are not too annoying, I really appreciate your patience in explaining this
Thanks
Alex

For some reason the groups are not going through to the SOP level. I tried this with a file I created aswell as with a file I was provided in a different thread that used groups to have the split node create particles at a given time. Is there an example somewhere of using POP groups to assign different shaders to particles?
Thanks
Alex
