No ,it didnt work
I uninstalled the Houdini NC software and reinstalled it. Before activating the license if I go to license admin it still shows me the previous licenses (both V. 10 and V.11). Does this mean the software is not uninstalling properly?

Hi,
tried every suggested option but still no luck. I am facing the same problem even if I installed the 10.0.595. Even i had formatted the system and tried to install Houdin 10.0.595 and 11.0.446.9 But still the problem continues.
I didnot get how to make folder ($HIP/mydocuments/houdini) writeable to solve the same problem as it is mentioned in one ofthe posts above.
I tried deleting the SVGIcons.cache and SVGIcons.cache.serial files in houdini11.0/config/Icons directory, didnt work. Tried cut copy and pasting these files\ config folder/Houdini folder in other drives. It didnt help.
The strange thing is couple of days back version 10.0.595 was running withot any problem but suddenly I dont know what happened the same version is not showing the display icons.
My system Config is
AMD Athlon 945 Quad core processor.
Asus NVdia Chipset M4n… Motherboard
2 GB RAM
1GB Graphics card 4325 ATI REDON. ( with updated drivers)
Please Help

something like this?
One option is using copy and timeshift sops. You have to play with the expression in timeshift sop or copy sop to get the desired value.

I started with free tutorials on 3D Buzz,Peter Quint's tutorials on Vimeo , and tutorials on sidefx website. It helped me to understand the basics of Houdini.
I learned a lot by studying the file posted on the forums.

Hi Lmayfield,
I guess as you are getting to see multiple geometries copied on template points as a output of copy sop, you feel that copy sop is merging these geometries (?).
Copy and merge sop are entirely different. Best option to learn more about these operators is, go to help > start here> Node based workflow and watch the procedural forest tutorial. Also go through the help.
And the worst option is going through my explanation (I am a beginner) , still I will try to explain
What I understood about copy sop is that apart from creating multiple copies of the input geometry, it sort of establishes the relationship between the point which is being used to copy the geometry on to (template point) and the geometry that is going to get copied .
This relation is related to attributes(copy > Attribute > toggle on template point attribute). You can create point attributes (for exa - color, pscale etc)on the template points and copy sop makes it possible to transfer those attributes to the geometries which are going to get copied.
Toggle off the ‘transform using template point attributes’ and see its effect
( Turning it on , applies translations, rotations and scales according to the trans, rot, and scale point attributes on the template points to the geometries , if these attributes exists)
With stamp, you can bring variation in those point attribute values.
Merge sop
It merges the geometries from it's inputs which you can fed in as a input to other operators.
You can use it to see the output of all it's input node at the same time.
Hi everyone , Please correct me if I am wrong.

So using point values for center of mass and density did the trick (rbd point object > physical ). Even overriding gives you the same effect. As one can guess ‘Add to the existing value’ needs more calculations and so the the machine becomes slow (?)
Thanks Khermah.

I think I have figured out my mistake and now I can get all the surface of the rbd object which has ever come in the contact with other rbd object using sopsolver and can group it (file, sopsolver group collided pts.hipnc)
It is working on multiple rbds objects as well (like rbd point objects, you can see the surface of sphere being colored red, turn on the wire frame mode) but in that case machine becomes extremely slow(even if there are only 2 simple rbd point objects , low res simple spheres ) (file , test.hipnc)
Please let me know if there is any other efficent way…
Thanks

Wow! Add sop. That was really very simple. (I was thinking of using foreach sop with delete sop )
How can we get the polygons once we add the ‘add’ sop in the network. As the output of this add sop will be only points.

I think you can use point() expression to extract acceleration(accel) and velocity(v) of a particle. (file attached)
point(“../popnet1”,$PT,“accel”,0)
point(“../popnet1”,$PT,“v”,0)
0 is the component no, returning x component. 1 for y component and 2 for z
go to windows > hscript textport and type
exhelp point. It will give you clear idea of how point function works.

Hi. You want to partition the primitive based on the color. Use partition sop. In the rules select group by color. This way you can partition either points or primitives (Entity)

Thanks khermah for uploading the file.
The points are changing from frame to frame . The new collision points on the sphere should be added to the previous collision points on the sphere.
I want all the surface of sphere which has ever come in contact with the collision object. ( what if there are many rbd objects like sphere and the collision object is not stationary)

Figured out one mistake. (Using rop output driver)
The geometry to which transferring attribute should be stationary. That is If I transfer the attribute from sphere to to grid , will get the area on the grid (attached the file)which has come in contact with sphere but not that of the sphere.
Can we get the area of sphere which has come in contact with grid by applying any change in the network?

Hi !
I tried it a lot but it didn't work . Uploading the hip files hoping that someone will point out my mistake.
1)
I was studying sopsolver and came across this in the help
By using an expression like stamps(“../OUT”, “DATAPATH”, “../.bjname/Geometry”) in an Object Merge SOP, the output of the previous timestep can be used as the starting point for the next timestep within the SOP Network.
So I thought we can achieve what you want through the sopsolver (file attached) I was transferring the colour from grid to the sphere by attribute transfer sop and feeding the frame back to the input by using the stmps expression hoping that part of sphere which has collided with grid will get coloured and then I can group it.
Can someone please point out my mistake? Is it possible this way?
2)
Also tried using rop output driver.
Imported the geometry from dop (sphere colliding with the grid, File attached)
Applied colour to both the geometries , used attribute transfer to transfer the colour from grid to sphere and then used rop output driver to render out .bgeo sequence. Each frame is then fed back to the input this time used switch operator to feed in the rendered sequence. Hoping that part of sphere which has collided with grid will get coloured and then I can group it. ( not very accurate way to get the pts which are collided, still)
Even this didnt work
Please let me know if there is any other solution to this problem
Please help

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » How to get the value of impulse field for the current impact

Thanks again for posting the file.
How would you use foreach sop ‘each attribute value’ and ‘each number’ when object to which it is applied gets created and dies (like metaballs in this case)
The torus is seen only when it collides with the metaball (see the attached file)
Sorry for the trouble.
Thanks

Thanks a lot Sir for the reply.
But I understood only the last option. It was easy, I wish I could have figured it out myself.
Can you please the describe the other two options little more.
Point function
point(“../object_merge1”,$PT,“impulse”,0) It didn't work
I guess the problem is with source and attribute, what is going to be my source and attribut? ops:
Replacing “impulse” by dopfield(“/obj/dopnet1”,“torus”,“Impacts”,“Impacts”,$PT,“impulse”) giving the same error report ‘undefined variable’
and
Foreach sop
I am not comfortable with Foreach sop. Could you please upload the file?
Thanks a lot.

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » How to get the value of impulse field for the current impact

Hello everyone,
I was studying this file (attached) . Torus dents on each impact with ground.
I want it to dent only when impulse value of it's impact with ground is more than 34. I used the following expression
if(dopfield(“/obj/dopnet1”, “torus”, “Impacts”, “Impacts”, $PT, “impulse”)>34,-0.2,0) in magnet2 translate parameters,
thinking translate parameter will be -0.2 when impulse is greater than 34 else 0.
But it is not working. The error is ‘undefined variable’ so I replaced $PT with 0, then I am not getting the desired result. What should I use instead of $PT or 0 to get the impulse value for the current impact? Is this is the problem &/or something else?
Can someone please help me out with this?
Thanks.
