Regarding what you wrote. Why 2 arguments in the numRows function ?
My code read elevation data and add attribute to millions of points. I manage to reduce my grid rez to 2x2 when no file are loaded but it doesn't release memory. Once a file is loaded and attribute added .. it's just to late. Even if a delete the asset and use File ->New command the memory is still used.
Any idea of what happens ?
Is it possible to read file in Vex ?

after other attempt it seems that if a put my python script in any parameter it only works if the content of the asset is editable.

well… My idea was a very bad one.
My goal is to make an asset dealing with external data.
The interface allows to load the data file.
Regarding the nature of the data, parameters of nodes inside the asset have to change.
I have a good prototype of the script but I don't know where to put it.
I tried to write the script as an expression directly in the “changing parm” but Houdini blocked ( endless cook).
I tried to create new parm with the script inside, on the interface level. Good success until I save the asset. The script is not saved and if I rewrite it, I have an error : editing of content not allowed !
I prepared a little hip for you to watch the structure and what I am talking about.

Hello,
I would like to change the value of a parameter of a child node regarding the value of a parameter of the parent one.
if parentParmValue == XXX:
childParmValue = YYY
else :
childParmValue = ZZZ
I tried to put this kind of script as experession in the child parameter but Houdini doesn't stop to cook

The other thing is I am not aware about advection theory. I am no sure to get the difference between the advection type and advection method …
ps: other question about my particle to volume setup. Why dop you say my Density is done in DOP ?

I ‘am making test with colored smoke. Regarding example shared by Peter Claes, I made a smoke setup where the goal is to transfert color informations of source ( points) to the smoke’s voxels and advect theses colors by the velocity attribute.
My problem is the colors doesn't advect and mix correctly. After some frames appears color loss and artefacts.
How could you improve my system ?

I was making a shading test to tweak the depth pass on reflecting object. The goal was to make the reflected environnement depth like there was no reflecting object.
Just link the PzRefl on vopshere shader output and link the Pz on the vopenv shader output to see what I attempt to explain.
Now I would like to make the same kind to thing with the world position pass. but I am stuck and can't figure what kind of transformation to perform.

Hello,
I would like to use a scatter SOP inside a foreach and use stamp expression to use change the seed parameter for each iteration.
It works with simple “number based” iteration, but the same setup doesn't work with group based or attribute based iteration.
Is it a bug ?

Hello all,
I am making a tornado effect using smoke Object and pyro solver …
I am using point cloud and gasFieldVop to create a vel field.
The behavior of my smoke was good.
From that, I decided to test a colored smoke for my tornado, using colored point as source, creating a new Cd field in my smoke object and using a gasAdvect to make the color to follow my vel field.
I have an issue when I use my original gasFieldVop. The color doesn't follow the vel field. I think it is because the vel field has to high value but I am not sure. The fact is when I use another gasfieldVop for my vel field or if I create a temperature field for my smoke, everything works as excepted.
I you can take a look to the hip I joint, it's great.

The source is particles at the bottom
Now strange thing happens when the smoke comes to close to the boundary of the container and i can't figure it out. Smoke appears where there is obvioulsy no source.
Please check the anim and the hip.

I am testing Pyro and particles and I have a question about the result of my setup.
I use particle emission to source my pyro solver via Gas Particle To Field DOP.
Apparently I am able to create all the field needed ( density, temperature, fuel,vel). But when I start the sim, if the voxels motion looks good, the color stay gray …
Can someone explain that to me and how to shade flame with this setup ?

Hello,
I would like to link an autorig controler ( IK wrist Controler) to a specific point of a mesh. The first thing I made was to create a Null and use the point() function to link it to the choosen point of the mesh.
Now I am stuck … I am unable to find a proper expression to link the autorig controler to the Null. The vtorigin() and origin() doesn't seem to work.
Any help is welcome
