Technical Discussion » Error registering 'sidefx_stroke': already registered - every time houdini indie starts

After updating the gametools I get this error every time houdini starts.
Error registering ‘sidefx_stroke’: already registered.
I understand what it's telling me, but I don't understand how to fix it
anyone? please?

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » How do I write expression to move subject along the curve?

This is awesome!
Is there a similar trick to shift the points along a curve that is not closed? I'm thinking if a dirty way would be to make a copy of the curve and run the process twice on top of each other, but one carve keeps internal and the other external thereby making it look like the curve stays intact? or is that just a huge waste of resources from a setup point of view.
thanks!

I think I just answered my own question! I can feed the grid I used to scatter the point originally back into the distribute.ql to limit the directions of where points can be shifted to. love this set of nodes.

Hello everyone I just came across this and wow this tools bundle is amazing! I do have a very specific problem, and maybe you guys have a handy idea to how to approach this.
Basically I have a Grid of lines with a fixed spacing, say a 30x30 row/columns grid, I extract the lines from the grid, and then I need to scatter say 600 points onto this grid, its very important they stay on the grid and not just in the volume.
Now here is my problem, they also HAVE to be within a certain distance apart, say 30cm, and I was hoping the “distribute.ql” would help. It actually does work exactly as expect, it makes sure no two points are withing 30cm's but it's doing it by pushing each point in both X and Y at the same time, and not in either X or Y, which means the points move off the grid lines, which they can't.
TLDR problem
pins on a line/grid spacing kind of thing, want it to be random, but with each pin having a min. distance to the next.
Any idea is hugely appreciated!
/Thomas

Wow this thread is really old as it turns out, sorry for reviving it maybe, but I am trying to copy your setup @ponge using H16.5 and at first I was very confused until I realised that literally everything has changed in the way popnet etc works now, so im a little lost again haha
I can't seem to add a creep inside a popnet now and the force you used doesn't exist either anymore. I can open your file and it all works but I can recreate the nodes it seems.

I know… it's daily builds… stuff breaks yada yada, all good! I get it.
But I am just curious if anyone else had the problem where the daily build (last few builds after 16.5.438) simple crashes on startup on windows10? I am running the indie version and it installs just fine, everything is normal like many many daily builds before, but something at the moment seems to trigger win10 to just die.
Anyone else seeing this? of course the production build runs just fine, so I'm sure it will be fixed if it's a known problem, but I love new stuff, even if its not perfect so I tend to test the daily builds when new ones come out, and right now I can't.
Cheers,

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » [FIXED] H16.5 Boolean generating broken mesh when exported

I think I found the problem, Houdini actually told me I just didn't realise that the error it gave me was so bad. But basically one of the two solids I fed it, wasn't actually a solid and just broken, so houdini would still try and do a decent job, but when exporting all the terrible broken geo would also export and just break.
Once I realised I changed the way I export and import the mesh for boolean in houdini and now everything works perfectly! Thanks though! I haven't tried divide sop yet, but will check it out.

Hello all,
First of all, I am fairly new to houdini, so my problem may be caused by something I do or don't do, but hear me out.
I have a huge perforated screen, think 7-8m wide with a shit ton of tiny holes in it, anyway I have two parts being loaded with a file node, the outline as a solid geo block and all the holes and geo. I managed to get houdini to polyextrude and eventually boolean the holes from the outline mesh and everything considered, it actually does it somewhat fast and the result looks great!
But that's where the good things stop, somehow I cannot export this geo, as obj, abc, anything. If I export the two parts by themselves before the boolean they work and load fine. The result also exports fine as in houdini writes a file and pretends all is good. But when I try to load lets say the obj in 3dsmax, max gets 75% through the “scanning” of the obj and just crashes to desktop. Rhino6 crashes to desktop and houdini itself gives me a read error when trying to load the same obj it just exported.
Is there something I am missing when dealing with boolean? do I need to convert to something or? everything looks correct and great in the houdini viewport, but I can't get it out of houdini again.
FYI. I am using houdini indie 16.5 (latest production build)
Thank you all!

Technical Discussion » HoudiniLicenseServer refuses to start - windows error 2
- Thomas Klyhn Christensen

Hello everyone,
I was looking into how various things worked in terms of houdini setup and although I understand that apprentice and maybe indie? licenses run differently, this problem seems to be a problem before any license is even in the picture, and I am wondering if it has something to do with the latest windows10 updates and if permissions somehow changed?
Problem:
After installing houdini with the commercial license server, the license server refuses to start and cannot be started manually either. I have tried 3 different build-versions of houdini too, and I have tried on 2 different pc's, same result.
please see attachment.
It gives me an error 2 saying it can't find the file, but the sesinetd.exe clearly exists in the right location. I also for fun tried to move it and point houdini to it at a different location, by changing the path in regedit, but it just gives me a different error, still won't actually start it.
I have tried to google and poke around to see, but no luck, so I am wondering if anyone has seen this before?
I wonder if you login to windows as superduper-admin if it still happens…. (yes my normal user is admin, but im sure you know how windows messes with user profiles all the time).
anyway thanks!
