Exporting Maya SkinCluster weights and importing in Houdini

Anyone done this before and give me some pointers? I exported them as json and currently stuck figuring out how to read them back as kinefx weights .
specifically, the boneCapture regn boneCapture w etc point attributes

Does transferring via FBX not work?
