I would like to learn houdini so I installed the newest version 6 so I can learn at 3d buzz. I have no other trouble with other 3d software but when I try to enter a license I get hkey.exe has generated errors and will be closed….

Thank-you for the license output. It shows that everything is fine except that you don't have a licenses file or you do have one that is bad.

Are you root when you try to install the licenses? Perhpas try using hkey as root.

Go to /usr/lib/sesi and cat < licenses and see what is in the licenses file. Are there any license strings in there?

You can build the licenses manually by going to license.sidefx.com and reading the apprentice instructions. You will have to either use command line tools or edit the file directly cutting and pasting in the license strings very very carefully.

Most of the time, when hkey crashes with the message “hkey.exe has generated errors.” it's because of video card problems. Do you have the latest video drivers installed?
