hkey and hmaster and even the command line sesictrl … “segmentation fault”. now the error dialog flashes on the screen for less than a second.

i got H10's hkey to accept H11 keys, but still no go.

quick side thought: should H11 take over 20 minutes to install on vista64?

i have 10.0.528 working fine on same machine and was able to install H11 on a laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 fine ( and installed very quickly ).

Edit: crash log is attached & via another thread I sent off an RFE.

I've solved reading this post http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&t=20267 [sidefx.com].

go to the properties on the Houdini icon and select the compatibility tab. Select the “Run this program in compatibiltiy mode for:” checkbox. In the pull down list I selected "Windows Vista(Services Pack 2).

thanks

Hi guys.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but im getting this problem with my new laptop. This is not a massive problem, as most of the time I can use my desktop.

Houdini installs fine, until I allow it to get apprentice licences, then hkey.exe immediately crashes.

This has happened with the production build (H11.0.581) and the newest daily build (H11.0.643).

I suppose this laptop specs might help.

Sony Viao
Intel i3 @ 240ghz
4GB RAM
Windows 7 64 bit premium.

If you remind me how to get the Houdini error logs, I can post them if you want them.

Cheers

Ragu.

It's likely due to the Intel HD graphics, whose drivers currently do not support OpenGL very well at all. Try setting the environment variable HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE = 1 in the System/Advanced dialog, and see if that resolves the issue.

That's one fast CPU, BTW

Hi twod.

Thanks man. That worked a treat. Silly thing is the amount of times I've seen peoples problems fixed by setting that variable, I should have known better.

As for the CPU, yeah I'm pretty impressed with it.

My desktop is a i7 980x (12 processors @ 3.3 GHz) and that's a beast for a desktop machine, that's why I went for an i3 series laptop.

Cheers for your help man.

That works for me too.
But openGL software mode is much slower. Viewport is litle bit laggy.
U can permanently turn on your nvidia video adapter by setting parametrs in NVIDIA control panel. That works as well, but you still have acceleration on viewports.

By the way after this houdini is refuses to update viewport. Have to manualy interact with it by “camera tool”. Dos anybody know how to fix this?

I've heard of some laptops that disable the touchpad when Space is held down to avoid accidental pointer movement. Does view mode work when you press Esc to enter it, then just usng LMB to tumble without Space held down?
