Looks like no matter what I do, I always have to run an FBX export with a full frame range (ex 1-200) vs a frame range of say 50-200 or whatever.
if I try to export my dops sim from say 50-200 I end up getting nothing but a locator at the origin exported, if I set it back to 1-200 it will calculate and export everything out properly.
is this a known issue? or am I doing something wrong.
I could only assume, that it might be intentional, if its only “exporting” the geometry at the “first” frame or something? I don't know.
anybody else seen this before?
thanks

Hi i am back, and hope somebody would help me on this:
i added a Filmboxfbx to the out (Scene —-> Filmbox FBX) and i finally see Houdini cooking the scene…i thought it would solve the problem, but
when i check the files…just a NULL on the middle of the viewport.
on the FILE menu, EXPORT…i cant even see houdini processing the file…it just ignores the exporting processing
THE FUNNY THING is…it worked some days before. i unnistall everyting related to 3D and FBX…unnistall houdini too….and still doesnt work!
is there a way to just change the FBX exporter? or i need to download the latest aprrentice?
thanx guyss

Hello,
Thanks for the file. Here's what I found (good and bad
.
The good news is that the geometry does come in, at least for me. When you import the file in Maya, you do indeed see a null in the middle of the screen - however, in my case it was only because I wasn't zoomed out far enough. Once you zoom out, you should see the cylinder geometry animated.
The bad news is that it appears that the rotations are incorrect, and the cylinder is facing up instead of being extruded along the z-axis. I'll look into this next.

What version of the Maya FBX plugin are you using? We've recently upgraded Houdini's FBX exporter to support 2011.3, which breaks animation if it's imported into older plugin versions. If you're using a plugin based on an older version, you can try installing a newer one here:

Just be sure to keep the old one as a backup, since not all other applications have implement the support for 2011.3 yet.

Is there a way to export the stereo camera from Maya to Houdini?Right now stereo cameras are not support by the FBX exporter, so unfortunately, no.

Actually it would be great to be able to use older versions of FBX today in the FBX export options I just have the option to the 2011 version.I'm not sure how this is achieved in Maya (since I know they still do it), but for our side, the versions of FBX which we can export are determined by the FBX SDK itself. Houdini basically asks the SDK to provide a list of backwards supported versions, and uses that for the menu it presents to the user. After the 2011.3 update, the SDK basically started telling us that it can only export to that specific version of the format. I'll take a look at whether there's a way around it, but if not, there's not much we can do on our side, though.
Is it possible to install older versions in Houdini?
