Hi,

I'm curious why some of the messages sent to the Houdini users list takes so darn long to post. It often takes hours, sometimes days for some posts to show up as opposed to the Houdini developer list which the messages are often posted within minutes, same is true of the web based SESI forums.

Aren't the Houdini users list running on the same servers as the developers list?

Anyone have an idea why this is so?

Maybe it's because they're tonnes more people on the regular mailing list as opposed to the hdk mailing list?

Well, I'm on a few lists that are quite large, and it shouldn't really take that long. Obviously I have no idea just how many are here, but there does seem to be some sort of process where certain posts take anywhere from hours to days, while others are posting much quicker, based on feedback between posts. Over on Zero Dean's list, which has quite a few members, posts take around 10-30 seconds…

I know, I know, I keep bitchin' about SESI's net services… I'm suspecting that the hardware and connection constraints are the culprits more than anything being setup improperly…although my suspicion is that some tags are triggering potential spam alerts and possibly putting aside some posts until someone can manually check them? That would explain why some posts take longer than others(spamspamspamspam).

Now if only Alex would reboot his palmpilot…

Cheers,

Yep, it's strange, the last couple of weeks have been much worse. I can't imagine why it would take so long, a list server is not exactly what one might call “CPU intensive” …
