i've been using 12.1.33. it has been working fine
i noticed that 12.1.77 doesn't start
i'm using fedora 17 and everything is up to date (graphics drivers, kernel, etc)
i'm guessing this might be because fedora 17 uses gcc 4.7
is there a way to get versions higher than 12.1.33 to work?
this is the crash log.

I'm also running fedora 17 64 bit, self compiled nvidia drivers, kde desktop (to avoid the space bar lag in the viewport). All patches to the date of this post applied.
But houdini runs perfectly fine for me. I compiled gcc 4.4, so I can do some development stuff for houdini, but it is not in my default path, but I don't think that gcc is the cause of your trouble.
What configuration are you using?
I currently run the latest dev build and just installed the build which gave you trouble to check, but as I said, works fine.

i'm running fedora 17 64bit.
i just use the software update gui to update fedora. so as of today fedora is running.
kernel 3.6.6-1
nvidia kernel module (kmod-nvidia 3.6.6-1: nvidia driver version 304.60)
xorg xserver 1.12.3-2
i've tried this on gnome, kde and xfce (have all 3 installed)
i also have installed and compiled gcc 4.4.7. i just put it in /opt/gcc-4.4.7, but gcc 4.7 is still installed in its default directories.
