:? I have the Houdini Apprentice program installed on my computer. My license expired so I tried to reinstall the license as I did in the first place. This time, when Non-commercial licenses were successfully installed appeared, I veiwed the installed licenses and there were none. I tried manually installing the licenses by copying and pasting but that did not work either. I have also tried to reinstall the program.

 I viewed my expired licenses and they were supposed to expire on 12-20-02. If I am not in the twilight zone, it is still 12-12-02 where I live. What gives here?

Hi Bill,

Something might have happened to your system clock which caused the licenses to expire.

Please try the following:

a. Start the License Administrator.

If you already see your licenses, skip Step b.

b. Go to View -> Show Expired Licenses.
c. Right click on the first license & select “Return License”.
d. Click Continue & follow the instructons. Repeat for all licenses.

After all licenses are returned, quit the License Administrator & start Houdini.

You should get the prompt to install a Non-Commercial License.

As it stands, after the 30 days license has expired, you'll be prompted to install another 30 days license.

Please let me know how it goes.

Cheers!

 Hey Steve,

I tried what you suggested and this is how it went.

When I right clicked one of the licenses, a tab apears with the following two choices:
List Users
Return Licenses

When List Users is selected, the message “This license is not in use” appears.

The Return License tab is barely readable and is non-functional.

I am at my witt's end but I am hanging in there.

Try this.

Go to control panel->administrative tools->services.
Find Houdini License Server, right click it and select stop.
Do the same for Houdini License Client.
Go to WinNT\keys and delete your license files.
Go back to the services panel and restart the Houdini License servers by right clicking on them and selecting start.
Start Houdini Master.
The license dialog should come up and hopefully it will let you install new licenses.

I am also having trouble updating my license with the .197 build version. I am using Win2000 Pro and tried MichaelC's and stevenong's solutions and they didn't work. Someone over at the 3dBuzz forum said that Sidefx seems to be having trouble with the license server. I don't know if this is true or not. If this were true wouldn't they post a message in this forum?

I've tried anything I could think of and I still get this error when manually entering keys: this key has been returned or disabled.

What now?

Well I'll have to run linux as at least it's working there.. btw, I get these strange artifacts in some surfaces using windows.. not in linux

well forget it, solved it myself..

when manually getting the licenses, if I type my hostname (vegbikes-wsjhg5) the date on the keys will be 25-dec-2002 and it will say the licenses have been returned or disabled..

If I tipe a different hostname (127.0.0.1) the date will be 25-jan-2003 and everything will run smootlhy Well thanks anyway! have phun everyone
