Hi, when I try to render the ocean off the shelf I get a flat surface. You can see below that I have hooked the displacement rop into the mantra node, but still no displacement.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I think this problem is for loading “ocean_displace.####.pic” texture ,I have same problem when I try to render via “Render View” ,But Houdini Render displacement texture automatically when I try to render via mPlay !
So If your problem doesn't solve after rendering via mplay window ,try to render displacement texture manually :
Go to Obj/ocean_surface/ocean_render
Press Render button on the ocean_render node.
Render again your project with Mantra :?

Ocean FX create 2 geo, 2 shaders and 1 render comp in /out.
- ocean surface
- ocean interior
In ocean surface, there is 2 nodes, one for display, it's what you can see in your viewport, the second one is for rendering and use DISPLACE for render.
You can render the displacement map directly from the rennder comp in /out
Name start with Fetch….
Check this, render it and AFTER try to render.

Hey Joker, unfortunately the file you posted also renders flat on my computer. It is almost exactly the same as my file.
fsimerey, thanks for the reply but I understand what you mentioned. The displacement maps exist and are in the right location.
I'm on Apprentice HD, could that be a problem? Windows 7, Apprentice HD 13.0.250

Hi,
I just tried the same file that Joker386 posted and it rendered flat in my Houdini FX Apprentice too (H13.0.363).
To fix this problem, please dive into the ocean_surface geometry node and change the file extension in “Output File” parameter in the ocean_render node from .pic to .picnc.
Once I did that, the displacements worked in my subsequent test render.
Hope this helps!
Cheers,
tk
