Sampling subframe POP collisions in CHOPs

I'm sampling POP collisions in CHOPs to use for audio processing.
But each sample is bang on the frame and I'd like to sample subframe to create a more realistic effect.

I've increased the sample rate on my Geometry node in CHOPs but this doesn't do the trick.

Any help or pointers appreciated.

I get the result I'm after if I turn up the substeps on my pop node.
Good to know if there's any other approaches though
