should work, the question may be what do you think is the default value

when you promote attribute to HDA level (From Nodes, drag&drop, Ecport Parameter…) the current value or expression will become default for the HDA level parameter (you can see it in Type Properties/Parameters/Channels)
so Ctrl MMB should restore this value if ever different, not the default value of the promoted parameter
to alter the default value change it in Properties/Parameters/Channels or promote parmeters when at value you want to be default

EDIT: also, even though not related to HDAs and probably not your current issue, there is a preference Misc/Delete Channels When Reverting To Defaults which is by default off, and therefore revert will not remove any expressions or keyframes unless you turn it on

I intend to have a go at a short animation in Houdini, reason for which this time I bothered to make everything neatly and bring everything together under and hda. Not the first time I do rigging in Houdini, but never for the purpose of animation.
But anyway, it seems that I forgot to save the node type and match current definitions, ha

I'm gonna go on an off topic little rant here…
Did a few dirty tests and the time-line as well as the dopesheet seem broken. Why can't I move a single key with MMB unless I also select an empty keyframe next to it? Why is the dopesheet spacially out of sync regarding the represented keys and the time-line above? Why does a selection area stops responding randomly at mmb for expanding/contracting the keys within the zone?
I'm talking extemporaneously now, as I don't have H in front of me, so I might not be very precise in expressing the issues, but I'm frankly afraid to get into the curve editor, where I'll be spending most of the time of I'm to finish what I've started.
Can please any Maya/Softimage users confirm that I'm not insane?

And for #&@$ sake, why's the 20th century standard of representing keys and frames still in place?
I remember that I submitted a model that makes perfect sense (as RFEs as well as public), one that even Adobe has adopted in their programs (that I know of) years ago.
I'm going to pry off my time again and submit some drawings showing a sane time-line and dope shit.
Probably gonna start a new “improving animation in Houdini” thread.
Someone's gotta do it, even though it might be for fuck all.

p.s. I'm not mad, I'm actually perplexed that these basic things are not sorted out by an ward winning company, things everyone in free or less esteemed communities take for granted
