Hi

I cannot seem to export an alembic object out of Houdini and get maya to see the UV's as the only UV set. It always creates another UV set. I cannot work out if this is just an Alembic thing or not. Googling it is seems most people are advising FBX instead. Which does work, but it is really bugging me. All I am doing is creating a sphere, giving it a uvProject, then adding an attributePromote to switch from points to vertex, and finally adding a rop_alembic. What happens in Maya is it will add the uv ontop of the default set (map1). I can just switch the uvSet in Maya to uv, but like a scratch I cannot itch this is really bugging me. Is this a Maya thing, Alembic thing, Houdini thing or something I am doing?

Best

What you could do is rename your “uv” attribute to “map1”. Specify map1 under Additional UV Attributes in the ROP Alembic Output. When you import the alembic in Maya you should end up with map1 being the only UV set.

Is this a Maya thing
Yes, most probably
I recall an issue that named uv sets from Maya get exported to Alembic with first uv set always renamed to ‘uv’
Wouldn't be surprised if something like that was happening on import too
If you import the same alembic to Houdini or third app what do you see?

Hi. I have tried renaming in rop and attribute rename node. Nether work unfortunately. Thanks anyway. Best.

Slighty old thread but I was facing this issue today and found that renaming the uv to map1 and setting the Additional UV Attributes to map1 on the rop, as DaJuice suggested above, did the trick for me. Thanks for the suggestion.
