Im just beginning to learn houdini, and havent found a way, if there is one, to just draw points on the screen like standard 3d software. I understand how this go against the procedural nature of houdini, but as it seems to be able to do almost everything, i assumed there would be a way.
Thanks

Hi Marc,

you can draw a (polygon) curve with the Curce SOP and then add an Add SOP which deletes the geometry but leaves the points in place.

Good luck,

it doesnt seem anywhere near as intuitive or quick as the standard method. Can anyone offer any tips, or link to any tutorials about fast point clicking and bridging modelling?

I wouldn't really say that was a houdini way of doing things. So if you want to work that way I'd just use something else then import the model.

Otherwise yes just make the points as suggested and then use polyknit.

Or snap curves, skin them in patches and fuse at the end.
The trick is finding just the right hammer for every screw

it might also help to describe what your building…there might be a Houdini way that works for you…
I can't imagine building anything with points… <shudder>

You might want to try polyExtrude with edges. Draw new faces by extruding edges and then using Fuse SOP to weld the points. This is probably the closest you come to something like point modeling in maya/lightwave.
