Privacy Policy

Side Effects Software Inc (SideFX) is committed to protecting the privacy of data it collects. This Privacy Policy explains how SideFX collects, uses, shares, and stores information about you, including personal information (i.e. information that personally identifies you, such as your name, email address, or billing information, or other data that can be reasonably used to infer this information).

Account Creation

There are two ways you can create an account on the SideFX site: by registering your information with us or by logging in with a third party.

Your name and email address is displayed to you when you visit our site, but it is hidden from other users of the site. Your username is visible to other users when they view your profile or other content you have uploaded to our site, such as forum posts, comments, gallery images, and tutorials.

Purchase Information

If you purchase products from the SideFX site, we request that you have an active account and that you provide your billing address and credit card information to complete the transaction. Your name, email address, billing address, and last 4 digits of your credit card will be stored by SideFX. We do not store your full credit card information. Our credit card processing service provider, PsiGate, will collect and store full payment card information from you when an order is placed. Your address information is used when preparing quotes and invoices for renewals of products and services you have purchased.

When purchasing products from the SideFX site, you may enter information about how you are using the product. SideFX uses this information to better understand its users and improve its products.

You may also provide an optional VAT (value-added tax) number and an optional PO (purchase order) number which SideFX will store and will include on your invoice.

Mailing List Information

You may choose to submit your email address when you sign up for a SideFX account. If you sign up, your email address may be used to send you news about SideFX-related services, surveys, products, promotions, upcoming events, seminars, or other information of interest. We may use one or more service providers to administer lists of email addresses and send bulk emails, but we do not share your email address with spammers or any other third parties without your permission. At any point you may unsubscribe from the mailing lists.

In some of our email messages, we use a “click-through URL” linked to content on the site. We track this click-through data to help us measure the effectiveness of our customer communications.

Contact Emails

When contacting SideFX, either by email or through our site, for sales inquiries, technical support, or other messages, we may store your name and email address.

License Server Computer Information

SideFX stores the computer name, license server version, IP address, and hardware hash of each computer where you installed SideFX licenses. This information is also stored for previous computers where you had installed licenses in the past, to make it easier to reinstall licenses to those servers. The hardware hash is required by SideFX's licensing software and is based on, but does not reveal, device-specific information about the computer such as the MAC address and disk identifiers.

If SideFX's licensing software detects the use of fraudulent licenses it might transmit your name, username, and computer name to SideFX. Otherwise, once you install SideFX licenses to your license server computer, SideFX’s licensing software running on that computer will not attempt to send any information to SideFX and will not connect to our site.
