Hi everyone,

We recently released VaraVision, a measuring tool for Houdini.

Originally built for our own production work at my studio. Needed measurements that would remain connected to the Houdini scene, update when the geometry changed, and appear clearly in client presentations and final renders, instead of doing it in Photoshop

VaraVision lets you:
  • Create persistent distance and angle measurements
  • Keep measurements editable as the scene changes
  • Style and color the measurement lines
  • Work in OBJ and Solaris context
  • Generate a clean 2D measurement overlay for final renders
  • Export measurements and angles to CSV
  • Use your preferred scene units and custom unit suffixes

The overlay is separate from the beauty pass, so it is not tied to a specific render engine.

More information and purchase:

Any feedback, questions, or suggestions are more than welcome, especially regarding measurement workflows you currently handle manually.

Thanks,
Moreno

Hi everyone,
VaraVision 1.3.0 is now available!

This update expands the measurement workflow with more ways to measure, annotate and organize your scene:
- Measure Selection for edge lengths, point distances, polygon area and perimeter, and selection bounds.
- VaraVision Outliner with nested groups, drag-and-drop organization, locks and solo visibility.
- Annotations including arrows, curved lines, camera-facing circles and text callouts.
- Separate context scopes for OBJ, per-object SOP and Solaris Stage.
- Persistent viewport guides that remain visible outside the tool and support native Houdini snapping.
- Expanded render overlays and CSV exports for annotations, face measurements and groups.
There are also performance improvements and fixes for Stage selection, viewport guides and annotation handles.
Measurements and annotations stay inside your hip file without adding scene nodes. Selection measurements capture the geometry when measured, so they do not automatically update after model edits.

Feedback, questions and workflow suggestions are always welcome.
Thanks,
Moreno

Nice tool! But in my opinion, the price point is too high for such a specialised tool.
I would insta buy for 5$.
Cheers
