I'm writing from Italy and sorry for my bad language.
I've downloaded Houdini Apprentice free for evaluation this fantastic soft, but I've a big problem. When I launch the installer, Houdini return me this error.
The version is for XP 32bit-VC8.
For three times I've tried and for three times Houdini installer return me this error….

Hi,
I am getting import _hou error while importing the hou module. Does it mean _hou.pyd was compiled for a different version of python than 2.5?

in PBR rendering mode in any metal material do not “reflection tint” anything constant shader, always return not tinted color… For example in gold material with yellow reflection i see in reflection all objects around in yelowish tone, but if in reflection constant shader - no reflection tint - natural color. What does it mean?

Hi all,
I am going through the hide python example from the shelf. I am trying to build a tool which inverts selection and temporary hides it. At the moment I can't find any method in the SceneViewer class which allows me to pick non-selected objects. It looks it is not the right place to look in, any suggestions…?

Hi,
Are there any tools out there, or does anyone have any advice for converting rendering setups, esp. shaders, that were designed for Mental Ray (in Maya, actually) to render similarly with Mantra? I figure getting the geometry, uv, textures, etc. over is not the hard part. I assume that matching shaders and lighting setups is what's tricky. Has anyone had any success with this?

Hi
I created a digital asset for the rendering nodes used to render different part of the scene.
I have a bunch of renderman and alfred operators (each alfred operator refers to a renderman operator as its output driver)
My problem is that when I put those nodes in a digital asset (or subnet), alfred operators stop functionning since they continue to assume that the output driver is still in /out (even though the specified path is correct, something like /out/renderHolo/earthCol_Rman for instance)
The invoked alfred script (in $HFS/houdini/scripts/alfred/alf_rman.cmd) receive only the driver name (earthCol_Rman), not its path (out/renderHolo/earthCol_Rman) and thus complain:
/opt/hfs9.5.142/houdini/scripts/alfred/alf_rman.cmd (25): Can't find node earthCol_Rman
/opt/hfs9.5.142/houdini/scripts/alfred/alf_rman.cmd (26): Can't find node earthCol_Rman

i am having problems with the stability of RBD constraints
in my scene i have chain from 10 tubes connected with hinge constraints and when i run the simulation, the whole thing explodes at some point
i have tried increasing parameters in rbd solver, but it is still happening
even on substeps 10/10 (and it is much slower, i do not want to keep increasing it)
does anyone have solution for this?

I have a fractured object that should fall apart. i set some initial positional and rotational values on the parts and discovered that the rotational velocity that is applied initialy assumes a wrong center (0,0,0). it seems that at the beginning the center is not calculated correct. how can this be solved

I know the rbd solver has an ‘add impact data’ toggle, but I don't see any such option for the cloth solver. I have to imagine its possible, but am clueless as to how to do so. Any ideas?

How can I use snaps to align for example one point or several points to other points on a line? I can use the ctrl key and hold this down while dragging to constrain to an axis but at some point it flips to another axis or 45 degees while I am dragging and I can no longer align the points I want.

I am modifying some of the rigging inside the autorig. I'd like to save that leg as a new digital asset. I am semi-experienced in digital asset creation, but I'm not quite sure how to get this all working. Is there any suggested workflow I could use to save out a new HDA and use that instead of the default leg?
I know it probably won't successfully update with the modify system, etc, but I really need to modify it, and hope to not have to do duplicate work on both legs.

Hey,
i am using the Houdini Aprentice version, and have problems with my mouse using it. After a while, sooner or later, I can't click anything. All buttons are dead. Even when I want to close to restart Houdini, the file menu pops up but the buttons on the confirmation window like dicard and close doens't work. Does anyone have the same problems or any idea how to solve that?
I am using Houdini 9.5 Aprentice on a iMax Leopoad, with the wireless keyboard and the wireless mighty mouse.

I have a custom chop (HDK) that creates a set of channels meant to be exported to a camera node outside the CHOP network.
I set the export object as the camera node: ../..cam1 on the GUI and I set the export and display flags. However, my camera only gets those values if I toggle the export flag off and on (which makes it cook). It also works when I wire a Null CHOP and use that chop to export it to the camera. As I want to make it work standalone, is there any flag sort of like flags().setTimeDependent() that makes it cook and respetively export the values? I've tried the setAlwaysCook() on the cookMyChop() but it didn't work
