I solved it. To anyone else having this problem or a similar one, read this [sidefx.com] post.

Everytime I try to launch Houdini Apprentice, it stops responding, telling me that “hmaster.exe has stopped working.” I've reinstalled about a thousand times and deleted keys. I've searched but haven't found any similar problems with solutions that worked for me. I'm running Vista 64-bit Service Pack 2. Can anyone help me out?
