Making a domino field from a logo Aug. 28, 2014, 5:54 a.m.

Dear all,

I'm rather new to Houdini and would be very thankful if someone could help me out.

What I want to create is a domino field (toppling stones) from a logo (vector based). I managed to animate a single line of dominos, and could make a field manually by putting stones one by one and row after row, but I'd like to know if someone knows a better way.

So here's what I think the steps should be:

1) create a box and manipulate it to look like a domino
2) import .ai file and make surfaces
3) create a grid of evenly spaced points on that surfaces
4) rotate grid 45 degrees (to let one stone hit two stones in the final result)
5) copy domino box to points

Maybe step 2 should have an own thread, but if someone can help with that too, that would be great.

Step 3 to 5 is the most important part. Any ideas are very welcome and appreciated.

I attached a file where I made the domino (box) and created part of the logo with a surface from a curve. Then I placed points on the surface by a custom uniform scatter instant. That's as close as I could get…

Thanks in advance!
