Chain SOP alters geometry normals Nov. 18, 2021, 6:41 a.m.

Hi there,

I am building a metal wristwatch band out of imported CAD geometry using the chain SOP and ran into a problem:

The chain SOP seems to change the vertex normals of the geometry of the pieces, making the uniformly soft.
Fixing them after the chain SOP would be very time-consuming.
Am I missing something?

Generate output name from attribute June 4, 2020, 4:37 a.m.

Hi!
I am working on a scene with configurable watches that are rendered with different models, straps, materials etc. The parts are organised in three OBJ nodes (case, strap, inlay) and all the different parts are switched inside these nodes.

Being a Houdini noob, I have a hard time to figure out how to generate strings from the geometry behind the switches that can be passed on and put in the output name. For example “WatchA_StrapB.exr” where “WatchA” and “StrapB” are strings that are defined on the geometry (per attribute for example, like "model = WatchA“ and ”strap = StrapB") and switched like the rest of the geometry and put in the output name like model_strap.exr

If this sounds too vague I can prepare an example file.

Can someone tell me if that is possible and point me into the right direction?

Cut jelly March 11, 2020, 8:40 a.m.

Hello folks,

I am trying to cut jelly with a spoon, the spoon being a static object and the jelly pudding a grain setup. The simulation is fed into a pointdeform on the original geo of the jelly to retain the smoothness of the geo, then shattered with a boolean to get sharp cuts.

This works quite well until halfway trough, then the inner of the jelly pudding just melts outwards, turning the jelly into a gory mess.

Being a Houdini newbie, I did not find a solution for this. I am very grateful for tips on how to give the inner jelly some stiffness. Also, I am not convinced of my setup, so feel free to point out errors or better ways to cut jelly with a spoon

thanks!
