Render stopping Aug. 22, 2025, 6:14 a.m.
Hi, I’m running into repeated crashes with Karma in Houdini 20.5.332.
My scene is very simple: just a car simulated in RBD and a smoke sim behind it with a bit under 100M voxels.
I’m on an i9-13900K, RTX 4080 (16GB VRAM), 64GB RAM, Windows 11.
The issue is that after less than ten frames Karma consistently crashes with a segmentation fault. The crash logs don’t always point to the same place: sometimes it’s during volume evaluation (BRAY_VolumeSpan), sometimes in shader evaluation (MaterialX/VEX), and sometimes during EXR image output (IMG_FileEXR, OpenEXROutputFile).
It doesn’t seem tied to a single asset since the crash happens in different parts of the render pipeline depending on the run. I can provide the crash reports if needed.
Does this sound like something suspicious on my setup, or is it just bad luck hitting known Karma instabilities?
EDIT: I added a 4th crash dump that happened after my post. é

Thanks for all of your answer guys, I guess I've got what I need!

Mike_AHello, thanks for your answer. I'll do it for the three sides and merge them then, thank you. Does this mean that there isn't a way to change the point order ?
Your planks are being copied to your points. Your points are not evenly spaced - hence the spaces and overlaps.
There is quite a bit you need to understand to use copy to points like this: how the Resample SOP works, normal and up attributes etc. It really is well worth your time to study those.
For a simple straight line situation like this you'd be better off just using the 'Copy And Transform' SOP for each of the three sides and doing a merge.
