Moana Island into USD with Solaris June 28, 2020, 11:41 p.m.

- 2 asset trees are obj files that weigh a little less than 3 Go.
I can't open them in houdini, the ram skyrockets until it fails opening it. I successfully opened one file in maya that took a full night and it was taking 50go of ram. The big problem being that those trees have hundred of thousands of branches that are not combined. I'm pretty sure that combining them should make things much easier but I don't have a solution to do that automatically/safely. Any help would be appreciated on this

I'm not a Houdini expert, but I've spent a lot of time with the Moana data. I recently finished packaging the scene into Redshift proxy files.

You're definitely on the right track with the Ironwood trees. I was only able to work with them because the Cinema 4D obj importer allowed me to split the obj based on material assignments: all of the leaves were processed as one object and the branches as another. It opened relatively quickly and wasn't a memory hog. If you can find a method of doing the same it should help you out. I could even share the already combined objs with you if that helps.
