Hi All,

I need to render a single frame in 300dpi, but I do not know how. I understand that I can set the size (width x length) of the frame, but I'm not sure if there are any settings for the dpi. (I actually rendered a frame in 1280x720p and it has 1dpi – I guess, that's the default?)

Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm a noob with all the “300 dpi” info when it comes to print.

Lacy, gently, wafting curtains.

hi ,

no, it is not 1dpi . afaik , the dpi of renders which 3d apps generate is 72dpi . you may consider that as a starting point and perform few tests and calculate the correct / acceptable width and height …

also you might take a look at this link http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=1855778&postcount=11 [forums.cgsociety.org] , which i quickly googed …

i'm sure you may find other more accurate explanations for other 3d apps , if you digg .

.cheers
except the things that cannot be seen , nothing is like it seems .

In my experience when dealing with graphic designers/ad's/agency ppl. When they say 300 DPI (dots per inch …a value ONLY relevant in the printer, google DPI vs. PPI) best give them 300 PPI (pixel per inch …of printed output). They mostly don't know the difference and don't take well to being tought something at all.

So take the width and height in inches, multiply it by 300 and put that into the pixel values of you render. If this gets stupidly high you can get away with multiplying it with 220 instead of 300 and up-ressing it a bit in photoshop. This wont work always, for ex. if you have very hard edges like a lot of text on a package etc. Do a test of part of the image if in doubt, don't render it all.

Best of luck,
Fabian

I once added this to the wiki. It's based on the pixel sizes for 300dpi documents in photoshop.
this is not a science fair.
