In the network view,when i press shift +G a mysterious tab appears,it is vaguely reminescent of the tree view…….my questions are
1.how do i make itgoaway (pressing shift G again does not work)
2.what does it do?/i have looked for it in the houdini help but to no avail…even just telling me the name of that pallete would help

Right-click on empty space in the network view pane to bring up the right-mouse menu. Look under Add, you'll see that shift+g maps to add group. The pane that popped open is the Group pane, and can be hidden if you go under the menu's Viewing Controls submenu.
