Hello,

this is going to sound crazy…. but i really need some help with this.

I am trying to get the EUCON control surfaces to work with houdini.

MIX:

Color:
http://www.avid.com/US/products/Artist-Color [avid.com]

Transport:
http://www.avid.com/US/products/artist-transport [avid.com]

THES ARE FOR MOTION CAPTURE FOR ANIMATION.

2 - 3 guys using these controls to animated complex secondary animation features for robust characters.

NOW THERE IS A GUY WHO IS MAKING SOMETHING SIMILAR FOR CINEMA 4D.

In fact… he is going to make me a rig setup plugin for C4D and the avid surfaces.

HOWEVER…. i need this in HOUDINI for a few reasons.

His website
http://www.frieslandav.com/camgriptools.php [frieslandav.com]

CAN SOMEONE HELP ME DEVELOP A SOLUTION FOR THE MAC version of HOUDINI that lets me use these surfaces to control animation?

i know some of your are gonna say…. “your crazy”, and “why do you need that”

but i beg you to help me despite my insanity.

thanks in advance.

my opinion. this is just a matter of writing driver for the hardware. and map the feedback data to CHOP.

And of cause i don't know how to do it. it just my thought.

I don't understand. Are you interested in EUCON support in Houdini, or any control device support? Houdini supports a couple of input devices (at least theoretically, as they are hardly used, so I wouldn't be surprised if that functionality was rusty or broken).

Besides MIDI input and mouse/tablet, there is an joystickChop (in proto_install), www.5dt.com's tracker and glove (also in proto_install), and finally and most importantly you could take a look on OSC in Houdini [sidefx.com]. OSC allows you to play with iPhone in no time and is supported by a couple of on-stage/life-performance devices. (There must be also Python OSC modules for even easier approach).

Basically you don't need any plugin once you have data in chops. It's a matter of couple of nodes to post-process and wire them into camera, character. Now as I said previously, the problem is that EUCON is not open standard (unlike OSC), so unless someone make a deal with Avid and get EUCON SDK, you won't see its support in Houdini (unlike OSC).
