Hello,

I am playing with the volume tools in Houdini for the first time. In the volume compress node, the help card talks about ‘tiles’ a lot. For example:-

“No Recompress

Even if the compression settings are changed, the tiles will not be recompressed.”

What does it mean by ‘tiles’?!

Thanks!

Volume primitives in Houdini are divided into chunks called “tiles” which are 16x16x16 voxels wide, as I believe. It helps manage memory, since read/write access (like compression/decompression) can be performed tile by tile, not with entire volume at once.

Thanks for the explanation. Is there any further documentation of this anywhere?
