Hey guys,

I'm working on an effect for a thesis project and I was wondering if houdini had a toon shader that I could apply to fire?

Not built in but it is easy to make one using a Ramp parameter multiplied with the density.

what would be the input of the ramp?

Hi,

I modified a basic smoke shader and although it worked as I expected, I'm not really sure it is what you expected…
I basically just intercepted the surface color and piped it into a ramp. I then multiplied by the opacity to make sure the empty voxels would remain transparent.

Hope it helps.

Cheers

also ive seen people on vimeo first convert the sim into a solid, you could take one of your fields and use a convert volume and then shade them with a normal stepped toon shader. i will try and find an example of it and post it here

Yeah… meshing the volumes would probably be a lot better, although I don't really dig the look!

Cheers
