Hi all;
What's the best way to import Softimage XSI objects into Houdini?
No rig or animation here, only modelling, materials and texturing.
Thanks!

materials would be difficult or impossible.

I would suggest alembic, but a simple obj does the job too. fbx is okish, wouldn't touch anything autodesk anymore though

Thanks a lot Sekow. It's a pity alambic doesn't carry materials and textures. Well , re-creating them will be a nice Houdini training 8)

hello there
So I imported my Alembic file from XSI. It's a hierarchy of object.
I selected the top node in this imported hierarchy : “alembicarchive1” then in the parameters, in “load as”, I chose “Houdini geometry”.
But I don't understand why I can't select anything? When I click the black Arrow its doesn't seem to work on the polygonal objects…
:roll:

Ok I found it, in the alembicarchive1's parameters, I had to press the button “build or update hierarchy”! Thanks Grendizer
