add details and poly reduction: best practices

hi ..

if I have any input mesh, e.g. a simple base mesh of a curved stone wall.

now:
what do you guys recommend to ‘add geometric details’ ?

I tried subdividing, polyBevel, mountain, .., but the default sops don't give me the control I search for.
e.g.
- subdivide linearly to quads (to a certain polygon size)
- quadrangulate mesh

how do you guys deal with this ?
are more such sops planned ?

any inputs welcome ..

Also you can make a custom tool with VEX for adding detail to your mesh , for example you can use Anti Aliased Noise VOP :idea:

With VEX network , you have more controls on your details 8)

hehe .. that will mean I have to learn VEX in the first place ..

that is an option, but I assume this will take me a long time to learn ..
