I can't seem to get the mirroring option to work with the Place Guides Tool.

Is there a trick to allow the mirroring to function properly or did I stumble across a bug?

Also how would one delete a guide that they misplaced?

you can delete them after the node since each is a curve /primitive.

other thing to do you can move it from the root to a better place.

That is messy. The place guide tool should have a remove guide option.

Just tried 222 build on linux and the place guides does not mirror placed guides.
