cast shadow problem

hey guys, shadow question: i would like to get the shadow cast by the sphere on the grid. I have two area lights, i adjusted both lights' “shadow mask” parameter to only affect the sphere. However, upon rendering there are still some self-shadows on the grid and they “cut out” from the shadow cast by the sphere. I tried also putting a shadow matte on the grid. Any ideas how to get a clean shadow? Attached screen shots and hip file. Thanks a lot!
