UVs not read correctly in Maya

Hi everyone,

As the title says I am having this odd UV changing when I import the HDA into Maya.
Basically I have a bunch of tubes and their polyCaps.
The UVs are vtx attributes so they should be read by Maya.
I've attached a JPG so you can better understand.

Any idea how to work this out?

Thanks

Which version of the Maya plug-in are you using? I can't seem to reproduce this. Are you able to attach the asset, or the bgeo of the geomery?

Hey thanks for the fast reply.
We run Houdini 14.361 with the relative Engine version.
Maya version is 2015 ext1 sp 5.

I am able to import the asset itself which then generates the geometry. I have really no idea why the UV creation should not work along.

Thanks again

Maybe it's something about the geometry. Can you post (or PM me) the asset? Or even the bgeo file (saved from Houdini) would be helpful. So that I can try to reproduce it on my end.

I will pm you the asset tomorrow in the morning when I get to my studio (I'm in the UK).

Thank you very much again for your fast help!

Just to update the thread. The asset was create in Houdini 14.0. And it turns out that the Maya plugin was loading Houdini 15.0.179. This build has a bug in the sweep SOP that was causing the asset to produce incorrect UVs. The bug got fixed in 15.0.208. So the asset should produce correct UVs in the later 15.0 builds.

If you do the “View Assets in Houdini” from their Maya session, does it also load 14.0.361? Does the UV look correct there?

awong

I can not test it right now, should be able in 10-15 minutes. Will post the result here.

Doing Debugging -> open in houdini opens houdini 14…. but the artist has another build (the .444). Anyway the UVs are still wrong :?

In that Houdini session, can you check where it starts going wrong? Maybe the sweep SOP is somehow not generating UVs?

Instead of starting Houdini with that menu, try:
1. Use the “Save Assets to Houdini Scene” to only save the HIP file
2. Start Houdini separately outside of Maya
3. Open the saved HIP file.
Does the UV appear correct there?
(Trying to see if the Maya environment is somehow causing issues.)

No luck, UVs are still wrong when opened in Houdini. So it has to be Maya at this point because even with different versions of HE the UVs are always incorrect

it's actually the other way around. If it's still wrong in the Houdini scene, then it's likely a problem in Houdini, because the scene is completely independent of Maya

Can you PM me the scene file?
