I want to complect new graphic station but I have not decided on what processor faster on Houdini - Intel P4 or AMD 64 ?

Houdini is like any other app - it depends on what you're doing with it that determines how much load is put on the cpu. I don't think there's a cpu specifically better for Houdini.

Also, it depends on the clock speed, and whether you're talking about a P4 with or without EM64. As a rule of thumb, you will get more processing power for the same money with an AMD64 rather than a Pentium. However, I've also been hearing some rumblings lately about houdini having some stability issues that may be related to AMD64. Still, plenty of people using them, so AMD is likely a safe bet unless you're expecting to push it really hard and you want guaranteed stability.

If you're referring to the X stability problems with AMD, then this appears to be a problem with older AMD chipsets. I'm not 100% on this conclusion yet, though (not enough sampling).
