Does Houdini have an operator for automatic grouping based on faces joined together? I'm splitting a polygon mesh with cookie SOP and I'm looking for a way to get the resulting closed polygon parts automatically without specifying the vertex indices or something like that.

Try using a Connectivity SOP and then wire that into a Partition SOP.
