multiple flip sources / volume velocities and one solver

What is the “proper” way to get multiple flip sources wired into a flip solver ? I'm using a volume source and have a few objects that have flipsource nodes attached to them going into a merge which then gets sourced via the volumesource. Is this the proper approach ? Using a merge in the dop network on multiple flip sources does not work.
