I saw many people using a custom Houdini UI/Desktop, where the parameters of an object are only shown if it is selected. This UI also saves some space when working with networks.

How to get this UI or how to edit the UI to get the desired look?

If you have a layout with top/bottom split network and parameter panes, this could be also useful:
Top right corner triangle menu: Maximize Vertically
You can bind a hotkey to it by pressing Shift+Ctrl+Alt and click, then just hover over and use that hotkey.
