Vaporwave style mountains the easy way?

Hi folks,

Could anyone tell me a good workflow to achieve the effect seen in the video below at around 1:25

What i like about this is the way he only select a few points, then transforms upwards to get these fake but cool looking mountains.

Obviously there's a million ways to do this in Houdini, but i'd specifically like to know how to do it in the exactly the same way he does it.

And just to be clear, i'm not looking to create realistic looking terrain!

You can take a grid, randomize the normal lengths, select a few points, and then use a soft transform node. I think blender has more options for its proportional editing than Houdini's soft transform.
