Im currently working on my uni project which involves me putting fire on the ends of these animation pins from Maya. They are imported from a alembic cache and i merged the geo together. However, the fire is on all of the pin and ive tried selecting the ends but it only lets me select the whole pin. Also when i render it on most frames the fire isnt constantly on the pin. Ive been on this for weeks now so thought id come look for help on the forums. If anyone can help me id be very thankfull.

You'll need to attach the object you're working with as well otherwise the scene doesn't work.

Are you using any blast nodes to only select the bits you want on fire and using those as the emitters instead of the whole thing?

yeah doesn't help if you don't include the alembic file…

but I mocked up the situation, using a pighead…you can see now the group select works fine,
if you disable the convert, you'll see it flips back to whole object.

because the ear selection is very small, I changed the particle separation from 0.5 to 0.05 you may have to readjust this in you orig scene
