Exporting nanovdb with low filesize?

A friend of mine was comparing nano vdb outputs from Embergen with those exported from Houdini. There is a massive size difference between the two outputs with same size and voxel density. How can I export smoke simulations in nano vdb format from Houdini with low file size without compromise in the appearance of the overall animated volume?

Are you doing any optimizations on the VDB before exports? I don't think there is any way to export nano.vdb's in Houdini.

A great video going over how to save on file size

Besides controlling the voxel size and choosing a bit depth of 16 (sometimes 32, but mostly 16) to have a decent performance without too much density to maintain a healthy balance on speed and visual quality, I don't do any optimization.
Thanks for the video. I'll go through it!
