Did you run,

“source houdini_setup_bash”

from the directory where houdini is installed?

To keep things simple and predictable install houdini in /opt.

I only got 900mb left in my root partition. Houdini Apprentice will eat 400mb. That's why I can't afford to just put it in /opt.

is there another way than putting it in /opt?

thanks in advance.

Still more important is whether or not you're sourcing “houdini_setup_bash” before you run Houdini. This will set all necessary environment variables like $HDSO, which tells Houdini where to find all those libraries that your not finding.

hmm, have you tried setting any of the environment var's yourself? I wonder what would happen if you modified $HFS.

sudo gedit /etc/profile

place this anywhere in that file.

export HFS=/home/myusername/HoudiniApprentice/

restart or login / logout and try sourcing houdini again before starting.

hi everyone,
btw, thanks so much for replies

I already fixed it. I just want to share what I've done to fix it even though I'm not really sure about this.

In my first installation which is stated above. The error message “License Error: Unable to connect to hserver for license acquisition” always pops out many times. This is because I edited /etc/hosts changing “localhost” to "myusername".

I realized this after installing houdini apprentice in /opt and while playing with xampp [apachefriends.org] and /etc/hosts. It just triggered my thinking that it maybe about the /etc/hosts. And it was!!

I tried installing it again at /home/myusername/HoudiniApprentice/ then “source houdini_setup_bash”, reboot, then thats it. It worked like charm..

hope this helps. ^_^
